Joel Fulton is Deputy Chief Security Officer of Symantec Corporation with oversight of the company’s Global Security Office (GSO). In this role, he is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring a strategic, comprehensive enterprise security and risk management program to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information owned, controlled or processed by Symantec.
Prior to Symantec, Joel began and led a IT regulatory compliance consulting firm for ten years before building and leading IT security and audit teams at Starbucks and Boeing. Joel has led tiger teams, conducted business risk evaluations and led risk-investment strategy meetings with various boards of directors.
Joel’s industry certifications and trainings include Certified FISMA Compliance Practitioner (CFCP), Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK), SANS Security Leadership Certificate (GSLC), Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP), Certified HIPAA Security Specialist (CHSS), Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM), IBM Certified Systems Expert: AIX – (IBMCS/AIX), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Checkpoint Certified Security Engineer (CCSE), Certified Citrix Administrator (CCA), Master Certified Novell Instructor/Engineer (MCNI/E), and Microsoft Certified Trainer/Systems Engineer (MCT/SE).
He is a frequent speaker at external conferences and customer events on the topics of cyber security and how to best manage security for global companies. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Excelsior College, his master’s of science in information security at Capella University where he is also concluding his information assurance PhD.
